In an interview with dvm360®, Temple Grandin, PhD, MS, professor of animal science at Colorado State University, highlighted the importance of understanding fear in animals when caring for them. She also described how management can play a role in helping mitigate this fear.

Temple Grandin, PhD, MS: I hope that when [the attendees] go back and work with animals, they'll have insights . . . to work with the animals more effectively. I think people underestimate fear. Okay, an animal's hard to handle because it's afraid. I think people underestimate how big a problem that is . . .Fear Free fortunately that's taking off.
