Meet the Fetch Faculty Temple Grandin, PhD, MS: Part 1

Kansas City

In an interview, Temple Grandin, PhD, MS, explained the inspiration behind her keynote address at the upcoming Fetch dvm360® conference in Kansas City, Missouri.

According to Temple Grandin, PhD, MS, professor of animal science at Colorado State University, an important epiphany she had earlier in life was that while many people think in words, she thinks in pictures. In this dvm360® interview, she described how maximizing this skill inspired her involvement with animal well-being initiatives as animals live in a sensory-based world as well.

Temple Grandin, PhD, MS: In my very earliest work with cattle, I looked at what they were seeing going through chutes. And if you want remove some of the distractions, like chains hanging down, sharp shadows, animals will move through chutes more easily. And when I first started doing that, that was a really new idea.
