Small animal practices have another strong month. Meanwhile, specialty practices continue to struggle.

Recession? What recession? According to veterinary accounting firm Gatto McFerson, in Santa Monica, Calif., California small animal practices are performing well, despite the recession.

The firm released the most current results from its ongoing study of California small animal and specialty practices. The data shows that small animal practices in Northern California saw a revenue increase of 8.8 percent in June-adjusted for price increases-as compared to 2008. Southern California practices also performed well, with a revenue increase of 5.7 percent.

Specialty practices continued to struggle, though to a lesser degree. After steep revenue drops of 12.5 percent and 11.7 percent in April and May, respectively, these practices managed to recover somewhat, seeing a revenue decrease of 5.2 percent in June.

The study data was collected from more than 100 practices throughout California. Click here for the full set of study results.
