Here's a before-and-after example of the benefits of using a low-stress handling technique to administer ophthalmic medication to a kitten from Emily Levine, DVM, MRCVS, DACVB, and the behavior team at Animal Emergency & Referral Associates in Fairfield, New Jersey. Ideally, a kitten wouldn't be treated near a whining dog, but the dog sounds were not a source of stress for this kitten because it had been well socialized with and was accustomed to dogs. However, initial improper handling and restraint for medication administration was stressful for the kitten.
