Equine Advanced Techniques in Fracture Management
Date: April 16 - April 19, 2015
Description:
This course builds upon the foundation of fracture repair taught in the Equine Basic Principles Course. The Principles Course is a prerequisite for the Advanced Course since familiarity with instrumentation and techniques will be assumed. The focus of the Equine Advanced Course is on techniques for reconstruction of complicated fractures requiring plating techniques. The lectures will include management of complicated and long bone fractures as well as external fixation techniques. Time for discussion and radiographic review of complicated cases will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring radiographs (imported into a Power Point presentation, details to
follow) of problem cases to the course. The laboratory exercises include plate fixation of radial, ulnar and metacarpal fractures as well as fetlock arthrodesis. The faculty for the lectures and laboratories are experts on fracture fixation in the horse and provide the most current information on techniques of management of orthopedic injury in the horse.
