Issue 12

Send us your entry by January 2, 2021, and your hospital could be featured in an issue of dvm360 magazine!

Have you built or remodeled the veterinary hospital of your dreams within the past 5 years? Do you think it’s among the best in the country? If so, then enter the 2021 dvm360® Hospital Design Competition! Tell us—and show us—why your practice’s design stands out.

What’s in it for you? Besides bragging rights, of course, the winning hospitals will be featured in dvm360® magazine and on dvm360.com. Plus, the grand prize winners in each category will win a trip to the 2021 Hospital Design 360 conference in Kansas City, Missouri. Hospitals of all types (small animal, equine, specialty), located in the United States and its territories, that have been renovated or built in the past 5 years are encouraged to enter, including hospitals owned by publicly traded corporations. (Hospitals funded by foundations, government agencies and nonprofit organizations still are not eligible for entry.) Your hospital must have been completed between January 1, 2016, and December 30, 2020.

Grand prize winners will be selected in 2 categories based on size:

  • Under 8000 square feet
  • Over 8000 square feet

In addition, multiple hospitals will earn Merit Awards. The number of Merit Award winners will be determined based on the number of entries received.

How to enter

All completed entries must include the following components:

  • Completed questionnaire about your hospital
  • Com prehensive photos of your hospital and floor plans.
  • Signed entry form attesting to the validity and accuracy of your entry. Download this form by clicking the image below. You will upload this signed form at the end of the questionnaire form
  • Signed licensing agreement(s) for your architect, photographer, and/or designer. Download this form by clicking the image below. You will upload this signed form at the end of the questionnaire form.

Submitting photos

Each entry must include a complete color photo “tour” of your hospital’s interior and exterior. Judges rely heavily on photos that show the features you consider unique and important and how the hospital enhances the team and the client experience.

Photos must be at least 5 by 7 inches at 300 dpi. We strongly recommend using a professional photographer and including staff members or clients in pictures. At least one photo of each of the following (if applicable) is required:

  • Each side of the facility exterior
  • Reception area
  • A typical exam room
  • Surgery
  • Laboratory
  • Pharmacy
  • Treatment area
  • Boarding
  • Isolation
  • Animal housing (indoor and outdoors)
  • Specialty rooms (dental, grooming, behavior, euthanasia, consultation, exotics, etc.)
  • Radiology
  • Staff lounge
  • Retail area
  • Exterior signage
  • Other interesting or unique features

Image files should be named using the following naming convention: “HospitalName_RoomType#”—for example, MiddleviewVeterinaryClinic_Surgery1, MiddleviewVeterinaryClinic_Surgery2. If there are multiple views of the same room or area, please number the files accordingly.

Also include a sketch of the lot, showing the building, parking lot, landscaping, and signage. Provide a labeled presentation drawing of each floor, drawn to scale, including square footage. On a separate copy of the floor plan, indicate traffic patterns for veterinarians, staff, and clients using different arrows or colored markers for each group.

Use this link to fill out the contest questionnaire, upload all of your entry forms, and submit your photographs and floor plans.

What happens next?

All completed entries will be reviewed by a panel of veterinary hospital design experts, who will evaluate the strengths and standout features of each practice to ultimately crown a Hospital of the Year winner in each size category and a number of Merit Award–winning hospitals.

After the judges have made their decision, we'll be in touch with the winning hospitals to coordinate that cool feature article mentioned above. You put in a tremendous amount of work to build the practice of your dreams, now we’ll put it out there for your peers to see. Plus, you'll get to come to the Hospital Design 360 Conference in Kansas City. You'll also receive a commemorative plaque to hang in your lobby, something sure to attract admiration from your clients.

The deadline

Entries must be submitted no later than January 2, 2021, so don't delay! Putting together your entry can take time, so be sure to provide all requested information. Also check out this list of common mistakes people make when compiling their entry.
