New York- DVM Newsmagazine captured two Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards for its state-board series and comprehensive coverage of last year's pet-food recall.

The Neal Awards are considered the Pulitzer Prize for business-to-business journalism. Managing Editor James M. Lewis and Associate Editor Krista Schultz accepted the awards on behalf of the DVM editorial team on March 14 during a ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.

DVM won in the category of best subject-related series for a comprehensive report documenting rising consumer complaints against veterinarians. Additionally, the publication was named a winner for its continuing news coverage of the massive pet-food recall in 2007.

The awards were granted to Daniel R. Verdon, editor; Jennifer Fiala, senior editor; James M. Lewis, managing editor; Krista Schultz, associate editor; and Bill Joyce, art director.

"The underworld of dog fighting," authored by Lewis, was named a finalist in the competition.

"I feel so fortunate to work with such a talented group of journalists, who are all committed to this market. What an amazing team, and they work tirelessly to help keep you informed about the news impacting your profession," Verdon says.
