Merial entered the cattle implant market with the introduction of Duralease⢠(estradiol benzoate), the first of its kind implant that uses liquid suspension technology. The product is the only implant to combine the benefits of a sustained-release estradiol benzoate implant with the consistency of a patented Theraphase⢠(microencapsulation) technology.
Duralease
This technology involves embedding a drug in a matrix of biodegradable strands of polymer. These strands form a microscopic sphere that can be easily injected to provide a long-lasting drug release.
This suspension implant uses a standard syringe to deliver a small 1-mL dose, which makes it less invasive and eliminates special equipment and pellets. With the same formula for steers and heifers, the product provides convenience and flexibility in an easy-to-administer liquid implant, the company adds.
