Conquer vaccination concerns in veterinary practice

Article

Be prepared when clients ask about the number of vaccines their pets receive.

Clients often ask about the number of vaccines their pets receive. Are they necessary? Julie Mullins, a veterinary assistant and staff training coordinator at Seaside Animal Care in Calabash, N.C., says she fights these concerns with facts. "If they're concerned about over-vaccinating, we explain our protocol," she says. "We tell them that we don't believe in over-vaccinating their pets either."

She says it also helps to tell clients the practice doesn't make loads of money off vaccines. "Instead, veterinarians evaluate the pet's risk before administering any vaccine," Mullins says. "When you aren't apologetic about your protocol and you're confident, people respond favorably."
