Connect with Baby Boomers online to boost business

Article

The younger crowd gets all of the attention from marketers, but don't ignore your older clients-their online presence is increasing rapidly.

While some people believe that social media websites are geared toward younger Internet users, an increasing number of Baby Boomers are logging on. Are you taking advantage of this marketing opportunity, or are you ignoring the chance to reach clients while they check their Facebook news feed?

Ten years ago, Boomers made up 28 percent of the Internet traffic on a typical day, but today, that number has climbed to 34 percent, according to Pew Internet and American Life Project data. So where can you reach them? Try sites like Facebook and Twitter. According to the data, 47 percent of 50- to 64-year-olds now use social media, and one in five use social networking sites every day—up from one in 10 last year.

Could your practice be doing more to reach these clients? If so, here are a few tips for connecting with them:

> How Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube can help your practice

> Don’t be a Facebook failure

> How to converse with clients through Twitter

> Making social media worth the time and effort

Finally, use caution when allowing team members to use social networking sites at work. Here’s a guide for creating a social media policy in your practice handbook.
