Our Fetch dvm360 conference circuit heads back to the Jersey Shore with 3 new keynote presentations

Fetch dvm360 conferences are always full of great veterinary education and networking opportunities. We are headed back to Atlantic City, New Jersey, from October 14 to 16, 2024, with a conference that will feature 3 keynote presentations.

The keynote speakers are Philip Richmond, DVM, CAPP, CPHSA, CCFP, and Josh Vaisman, MAPPCP, CCFP; Renée Alsarraf, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology); and Adesola Odunayo, DVM, MS, DACVECC. Get to know a little bit more about these industry experts and what their keynote sessions will entail.

Richmond is founder and chief consultant of Flourishing Phoenix Veterinary Consultants in Odessa, Florida. He also serves as chair for the Florida Veterinary Medical Association’s Professional Wellness committee and is a member/adviser for several national committees and boards for workplace suicide prevention and veterinary well-being. Richmond encourages positive work cultures to promote psychological health, safety, and well-being in veterinary workplaces.

Vaisman is cofounder of Flourish Veterinary Consulting and has more than 25 years of veterinary experience along with a master’s degree in applied positive psychology and coaching psychology. He is the author of the American Animal Hospital Association book Lead to Thrive: The Science of Crafting a Positive Veterinary Culture.

Together, Richmond and Vaisman are presenting on the first day of the conference about the positives and negatives of the veterinary profession. In their session titled “Red Cape/Green Cape: The Balancing Act of Firefighting and Flourishing in Vet Med,” the pair will focus on issues such as mental health, pay disparities, and burnout and leave attendees with strategies for positive leadership, well-being, and innovation.

Alsarraf received her veterinary degree in 1991 from Michigan State University in East Lansing, and while she was a student, she established the university’s Pet Loss Support Group. Following her graduation, Alsarraf completed a rotating internship and medical oncology residency at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center in New York, New York. She also worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York, in a tissue culture laboratory. She has established 4 different veterinary oncology practices as well as 3 veterinary radiation facilities.

Alsarraf will present her keynote session “Treating Yourself Through a Dog’s Eyes” on the second day of the conference. Alsarraf is a cancer survivor and will highlight the life lessons she has learned from her own journey and those of her 4-legged patients. She aims to provide attendees with more insight into how to live better and take care of ourselves and our veterinary team.

Adesola Odunayo, DVM, MS, DACVECC

Odunayo graduated from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater in 2005 and completed an emergency and critical care internship at the Animal Emergency Center in Glendale, Wisconsin. In 2010, she completed a residency in emergency and critical care at the University of Missouri in Columbia. She is now the Michael Schaer Distinguished Professor of Emergency and Critical Care at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Odunayo closes out the conference on the third day with her keynote on dealing with common emergency scenarios with skill and confidence. Her session “From Chaos to Calm: Mastering Emergency Medicine Excellence” will focus on patients being managed in the practice and those being stabilized for transfer to a referral hospital.
