In Orlando, Florida, Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando has opened a new $15 million shelter more than four years after a fire destroyed its previous facility. In Louisville, Colorado, Chewy Vet Care has debuted its latest clinic location in the Boulder area. Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando opens new $15M shelter in Orlando, Florida

Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando has opened a new 25,000-sq ft animal shelter at South John Young Parkway in Orlando, Florida, more than four years after a September 2021 fire destroyed its former Conroy Road location and killed dozens of animals. The $15 million facility is air-conditioned and can house up to 275 pets at a time, and includes a modern medical unit equipped to treat both dogs and cats. Organization leaders say the new campus is expected to support approximately 6000 adoptions annually.

"It's been a long journey to get here, but this facility really represents hope and healing for our organization and the community," Lindsay Framstead, director of Human Resources for Pet Alliance, said in a news report.¹ Framstead noted that the expanded medical space will improve care for incoming animals while the increased capacity helps address growing regional demand for adoptions.

Pet Alliance noted it remains approximately $315,000 short of its $15 million fundraising goal. Adoption hours at the new shelter are held daily from noon until 6 p.m.

Chewy Vet Care opens in Louisville, Colorado, in the Boulder area

Chewy Vet Care has opened a new practice at 459 McCaslin Blvd, Suite 6, in Louisville, Colorado, marking the brand's first location in the Boulder area and joining existing Colorado practices in downtown Denver, Littleton, and Highlands Ranch. Among its distinguishing features is a viewing treatment window—the first of its kind across Chewy Vet Care locations—allowing pet owners to observe their pet's care in real time during appointments. The practice also features personalized room monitors displaying each pet's photo, care team, and visit details, as well as exam rooms named after individual patients. Design elements including warm lighting, soft colors, and non-slip floors are intended to create a calming environment for animals and their owners.

The location integrates with Chewy's broader suite of pet health services, including Chewy Pharmacy, Autoship, Connect With a Vet, and PetMD, with medical records and updates accessible around the clock through Chewy's online Pet Portal.

Houston Humane Society opens 10,000-sq ft veterinary clinic in Houston, Texas

Houston Humane Society celebrated the grand opening of a new 10,000-sq ft standalone veterinary clinic on March 24 at 3100 West Fuqua Street in Houston, Texas. The facility—the organization's first of its kind—is projected to expand access to medical care for 30% more animals across Greater Houston. Services include vaccinations, spay and neuter procedures, ultrasounds, laser therapy, dental care, wellness exams, microchipping, and a range of surgical procedures, including mass removals, eye repair or enucleation, treatment for pyometra, rectal repair, and hernia repair and amputations. The clinic is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“This building was designed to enhance the veterinary experience for animals and their caregivers, while providing clinic staff with the space and resources they need to meet the growing demand for high quality, budget-friendly services,” Mary Beck, executive director of Houston Humane Society, said in a news release.² “This marks a major milestone in our organization’s history, and we’re confident the new clinic will play a vital role in efforts to reduce overpopulation and ensure animals remain healthy and in their homes, not in shelters.”

The clinic features five exam rooms, a full-service surgical suite, treatment and dental rooms, separate cat and dog waiting areas, and a designated outdoor relief area. A post-surgery monitoring space called The Beach, along with dedicated recovery and comfort rooms, rounds out the patient and caregiver experience. The facility occupies the former William A. Vinson Branch Library, built in 1969, and its original plaque has been preserved and installed in the clinic's Hamill Foundation Welcome Center. The project was funded in part by The Hamill Foundation, The Brown Foundation, The Avila Family, and PetSmart Charities.
