CityVet, the Dallas-based network of 29 veterinary-owned practices, has named Jennifer Welser, DVM, DACVO, as chief strategy officer (CSO).

According to a company release,1 in this new role, Welser will oversee CityVet’s growth initiatives beyond general practice medicine and drive the company’s clinical learning and development program. She will also lead the innovation strategy in CityVet with her strategic plan including introducing and raising awareness of CityVet’s veterinary ownership model and support system to new channels within the field.

“I’m thrilled to join the leadership team at CityVet where they focus on a business model of ownership for veterinarians by providing back of house support so vets can both focus on their passion of practicing medicine and their dream of being a practice owner,” said Welser, in the release. “I look forward to diving in - expanding into new opportunities that integrate high quality care and building on CityVet’s incredible reputation.”1

Before CityVet, Welser most recently served as chief medical officer at Mars Veterinary Health. Some additional previous roles she held include working clinically and in senior leadership at BluePearl Veterinary Partners and founding the Veterinary Eye Specialists group. She serves on the board for the Veterinary Innovation Council and is the current vice chair.

What’s more, she has practiced as a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist, and successfully developed and sold a licensed therapeutic nutritional supplement to a global veterinary pharmaceutical company. Welser is a current patent holder for an ophthalmic applicator device as well.1

“Jennifer’s extensive medical expertise in the veterinary industry will be key to CityVet’s continued success in identifying new strategies for innovations that will allow our team to better serve current and future clients as we continue to grow as a company,” expressed CityVet’s CEO David Boguslawski, in the release. “She truly understands the importance behind continual professional development and learning at CityVet and the intangible qualities of what sets us apart from any other veterinarian company.”1
