Checking for heartworm disease

Thorough testing helps keep more pets protected from heartworm disease.

The Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC) recommends that dogs, including those on heartworm prevention, be tested annually using both antigen and microfilariae tests. Dr. Susan Little, Oklahoma State University, describes some methods for looking for microfilariae.
