Pharmacia Animal Health introduces two new training videos showing howto effectively control and treat bovine respiratory disease (BRD) usingthe Durable Curesm BRD management program and the consequences of not treatinginfected animals early enough. The Durable Cure program targets calves showingearly symptoms of BRD and ensures they return to the performance level oftheir pen mates, and don't return to the hospital pen as a repull, the companysays.

The first video, The Remedy for Repulls, teaches how to eliminateclinical BRD signs, resolve lung lesions and return animals to a productive,"gaining" state. It outlines a three-step program that includes:identification of BRD, evaluation and treating using the DARTsm assessment,which includes a depression, appetite, respiratory index and temperature;and daily monitoring/evaluation until all DART signs are normal, the companysays.

The second video, Healed Lungs Heighten Feedyard Profitability, increasesawareness of the impact and long-term effect lung lesions have on the feedyardand carcass performance, the company says. The video outlines how calvesbecome susceptible to BRD through feedyard stressors compromising theirimmune systems.
