Boehringer Ingelheim unveils once-daily ProZinc for dogs

One injection a day can help to manage the clinical signs of canine diabetes for 18 to 24 hours.

Boehringer Ingelheim recently introduced once-daily ProZinc (protamine zinc recombinant human insulin) for the reduction of hyperglycemia and associated clinical signs in most canine diabetic patients.

“Once-daily dosing with ProZinc is a breakthrough for pet owners with diabetic dogs,” says Grant Beckett, BVSc, MRCVS, senior associate director of technical marketing at Boehringer Ingelheim, in a company release. “A single injection can provide consistent and reliable control of clinical signs for 18 to >24 hours in most canine patients.”

ProZinc, available by prescription only, was approved by the FDA for use in dogs early last year, making it the second veterinary-approved product available for managing canine diabetes.

“Not only is ProZinc more convenient for dog owners, but it reinforces veterinarians’ commitment to providing a better quality of life for their patients,” says Beckett in the release.
