Blog your way into clients' hearts

Article

Lots of people are blogging, so maybe you should too.

Blogging just might improve your client communications. First off, it could help you connect with pet owners. More than one-third of all U.S. women ages 18 to 75 participate in blogs, according to a recent study by BlogHer and Compass Partners. What draws them in? They read blogs for fun (46 percent) and to get information (41 percent).

Because blogging has become mainstream, a pharmaceutical professor decided to put it to work teaching her students better communication skills. Alicia S. Bouldin, associate professor of pharmacy administration at the University of Mississippi, required her students to blog twice a week about communication issues. Topics ranged from discussing how TV characters interact to how the practice environment affects pharmacist and patient communication.

The blogging exercises gave students the chance to practice more casual conversation—a critical skill to developing strong pharmacist-patient relationships. So if you need to strengthen your bond with clients, it might be time to set up a practice blog.
