Banfield to help pets of hospice patients

“What will happen to my pets if I die?” Hospice patients who are comforted by their pets are understandably worried about the present care and future care of their animal companions. In response, the Banfield Charitable Trust has begun a new campaign, Pet Peace of Mind, to help address the worries of dying pet owners.

The new initiative provides training and money to nonprofit hospices to start local programs delivering volunteer pet care services for hospice patients. Services include financial assistance with routine veterinary care, pet transportation to veterinary appointments, pet boarding and walking, access to pet food and necessary medicine, and help finding a new home for pets once the hospice patients have passed away.
