MONTGOMERY, ALA. — New Alabama legislation aims at changing practice ownership rules for tax-exempt practices.

Currently only veterinarians licensed in Alabama are permitted to own practices in the state. House Bill 156 calls for an exemption for 501(c)(3) entities from current veterinary employment and ownership rules. Veterinarians employed by government agencies and research facilities already are exempt from the rule.
