Dr Daryl D. Buss will receive the award during the AAVMC's upcoming Catalyze 2022 conference.

The American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) will present its 2022 AAVMC Billy E. Hooper Award for Distinguished Service to Daryl D. Buss, DVM, PhD, during the organization’s annual conference running from March 3, 2022, to March 5, 2022.

According to an organizational release, the AAVMC award is given to an individual displaying leadership skills and a vision that have substantially impacted academic veterinary medicine and the veterinary profession.

“The AAVMC is proud to recognize outstanding individuals like Dr. Buss,” expressed Andrew T. Maccabe, DVM, MPH, JD, AAVMC CEO.

“Their contributions inspire colleagues, provide a model for future generations of veterinarians, and elevate the overall excellence of our member institutions. We look forward to honoring them during our 2022 annual conference,” he continued.

Buss's career spanning more than 50 years has consisted of clinical practice, teaching, and leadership of academic institutions and the AAVMC, and ultimately, serving as editor-in-chief (EIC) of the AAVMC’S Journal of Veterinary Medical Education (JVME).

As the EIC, Buss helped JVME extend in scope and international outreach, plus it transitioned from a solely print journal to a print/digital hybrid publication.

Buss also served for 17 years as the dean of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine and was a faculty member in the comparative biosciences department teaching cardiovascular physiology.

Buss authored or co-authored 74 publications that significantly contributed to cardiology and his studies were funded by the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association. What’s more, he served in various veterinary medicine professional organizations.

The AAVMC's Catalyze 2022 conference will be held in Washington, D.C., at the Watergate Hotel.
