AAVMC opens nominations for veterinary achievement and service awards

Winners will be honored at annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

Are you plugged into the pulse of veterinary academia? Nominations for the annual Association of American Veterinary Medical College (AAVMC) awards, recognizing professional achievement and distinguished service, will be accepted now until Oct. 31.

The five major awards, formally bestowed upon honorees during the 2015 annual AAVMC meeting in Washington D.C. March 13 to March 15, 2015, include the AAVMC Excellence in Research Award; the AAVMC Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award; the Senator John Melcher, DVM, Leadership in Public Policy Award; the Iverson Bell Award; and the Recognition Lecture.

Last year's recipients included:

> Yoshihiro Kawaoka, DVM, PhD, professor of virology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine

> John A. Herrmann, DVM, MPH, Dipl. American College of Theriogenologists, director of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine/Master of Public Health program and the Center for One Health Illinois and clinical associate professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine

> Joe Kornegay, DVM, MS, PhD, professor of neuroscience in the Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University

Nominations open Jan. 1, 2015 for the second annual AAVMC Communications Excellence Award won in 2014 by Ashley Berke, director of communications for the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.
