Lexington, Ky. — Members of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and others wishing to submit scientific papers, "how-to" papers and review papers for possible presentation at this year's AAEP convention have until March 14 to submit them online for consideration.

The AAEP's Educational Programs Committee will choose papers in May that will be presented at the 54th AAEP annual convention in San Diego, Dec. 6-10.

Full instructions for authors are posted on the organization's Web site, www.aaep.org.

Those chosen to present papers at the convention must disclose the nature of any financial interests they may have with companies the make or sell products discussed in their papers.

Submission of a paper is regarded as a commitment to present it at the meeting if selected; authors will receive complimentary registration and a travel allowance. The selected papers will be printed in the 2008 AAEP Proceedings.

Four types of papers may be offered:

  • Scientific papers, for a 20-minute presentation. Entries should be at least 600 words and offer practical or new information.

  • How-to papers, up to a 15-minute presentation to describe and explain a technique or procedure used in veterinary medicine or the equine industry.

  • Review papers, up to a 20-minute presentation to update members on a new subject or a gathering of information that may be conflicting and need resolution.

  • Abstracts, up to a 20-minute presentation by authors who intend to publish in a refereed journal, limited to 250 words.
