Kat Albrecht, founder of Missing Pet Partnership, talks about the primary reason cats go missing. Cats can become scared very easily, or can be chased out of their territory by other cats, causing them to leave their usual location.
When indoor cats find their way outside, they become afraid and choose to hide. Most cat owners may not be aware that their cat is hiding in their backyard, so they go down to the animal shelter to find their "missing" cat when in actuality their cat is right outside their door.
