Vetoquinol launches therapeutic tool to manage liver problems in pets

October 1, 2003

Vetoquinol USA introduces Zentonil, a drug designed to help restore and support hepatic function by providing the body with an essential building block in the production of antioxidants: S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe).Naturally produced in the body, SAMe is essential to liver function in many ways, says company spokesman Dr. Eric Lynn. Because of the liver s vital role providing essential functions ranging from the processing of nutrients to the filtering of waste and the production of hormones, proteins, enzymes and antioxidants, early detection and management of liver problems can be lifesaving, he says. Unfortunately, symptoms of hepatic distress often are vague and subtle, especially in its early stages. S-Adenosylmethionine has been proven in veterinary clinical trials to not only significantly increase glutathione levels in compromised dogs and cats, but also to protect liver cells from dying. Unlike many SAMe products for humans, which can vary significantly in quality and concentration, Zentonil is a pure, stabilized salt of SAMe, manufactured for veterinary use from pharmaceutical-grade compounds according to Vӎtoquinols stringent quality standards, the company says. It s also the only SAMe product on the veterinary market that is available in three strengths 100 mg for small dogs and cats, 200 mg for medium dogs and 400 mg for large dogs.
