Veterinary Team-based Health Care

The concept of team-based health care means putting everybody at the same level.

"The concept of team-based health care means putting everybody at the same level," explains Peter Weinstein, DVM, MBA, owner of PAW Consulting and executive director of the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association.

"It really means that the doctor, the client service team, the animal care team, and the technician team—licensed or veterinary assistants—are all working together to a common goal, which is that outstanding client experience; that outstanding patient experience. And it comes from trust—all of the individuals who are part of the team trusting one another—and it comes definitely from communication. It means that the doctors have to clearly communicate with the staff, the staff have to communicate with each other, and they are looking to come out with a successful client experience and a successful patient experience. To me, teamwork ultimately makes the dream work."
