Veterinarians Play Crucial Role in Animal Welfare Community

Amanda Landis-Hanna, DVM, senior manager of veterinary outreach for PetSmart Charities, explains how veterinarians and shelter veterinarians used to compete with each other, but veterinarians need to find ways to collaborate with shelter veterinarians instead.

Veterinarians can volunteer at local animal shelters, provide feedback on how patients are being held and treated, provide enrichment, make small donations, provide continuing education or support for shelter veterinarians, and help educate animal shelter volunteers who may be working with difficult shelter animals.
