At the 2017 American Veterinary Medical Association Convention, Amanda Landis-Hanna, DVM, senior manager of veterinary outreach for PetSmart Charities, attended a session about veterinary internships.
Veterinarians who pursue internships said they do so because they feel they don't have enough skill level after veterinary school, or they're planning to pursue a residency. But, the numbers show that going through an internship has a higher probability of underemployment when that graduate goes into full-time practice.
