Jeff Adney, BA, president of PermaTek Coatings, talks about the S.M.A.R.T. way to ensure a good quality floor and the key ingredients needed for an installation that will perform for many years. S.M.A.R.T. is taking what we defined in our D.R.E.A.M. floor, determining what best fits your facility and then getting it installed properly, Adney says. S.M.A.R.T. stands for:

  • Specification, Safety, and Specialized equipment: Make sure you have your architect define and specify the products being used.
  • Manufacturer and Materials: Tie the materials and manufacturing together to almost have a join warranty between the two, which Adney says is a great way to go.
  • Aesthetics and Appearance: Make sure you clearly define what you're looking for with your contractor when it comes to design.
  • Referrals and References: Make sure your contractor will do what needs to get done.
  • Timing and Testing: Downtime is loss of revenue, so work with your contractor on how long the construction will take.
