Rabies is a standard example of a One Health disease, says Frederic Lohr, DVM, MRCVS, global operations officer for Mission Rabies.
Rabies is endemic in the dog population, and is transferred from animals to people, but the environment also plays a role. Dogs live off of trash in the streets, so areas need to take a holistic approach that gets rid of rabies in animals to get rid of it in humans, along with environmental control to get trash off the streets to prevent free-roaming dogs in the streets.
