Pan American Veterinary Laboratories (PAVL) introduces Pythium immunotherapy, an immunotherapeutic product for the treatment of pythiosis, a fungal-like organism in horses and dogs, which causes severe, local allergic reaction.

Animals develop tumor-like lesions, which grow quickly and become necrotic and serosanguineous, and can die in severe cases.
The Pythium immunotherapy consists of three injections of purified proteins derived from P. insidiosum.

The therapy converts the patient's allergic response to a protective and curative immune response, which reverses the inflammation and necrosis and eliminates the infection, the company says.
PAVL's Pythium Immunotherapy demonstrated 90 percent success in a recent study of infected horses.
