Purina introduces a new OM formula to promote feline weight loss
St. Louis — Purina Veterinary Diets introduces a therapeutic weight-loss formula for cats.
ST. LOUIS - Purina Veterinary Diets introduces a therapeutic weight-loss formula for cats. Overweight Management (OM) brand Feline Dry Formula provides high protein, low fat and optimal fiber levels to stimulate metabolism and promote fat loss.
OM contains approximately 1,471 kcal/ pound and includes:
52 percent protein
7.82 percent fat
4.76 percent fiber.
The new diet will replace the original dry OM Feline formula. Because the canned OM Feline formula meets the desired criteria, the original formula will remain the same, the company says.
"In order to be successful, feline weight loss needs to focus on providing less metabolizable energy, while still providing all of the essential nutrients to satisfy the cat's hunger," says Dottie Laflamme, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVN, Nestle Purina Petcare.
OM helps manage cats with hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus or hairballs.
OM serves as a maintenance formula, allowing adult cats prone to obesity to remain on the diet indefinitely.
