Public picks poodle for Obama

Article

Eighth most popular dog breed is America's top recommendation for the presidential candidate.

Over seven weeks, more than 42,000 people cast their vote in an American Kennel Club poll to offer up an answer to a very important question: What kind of dog should Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama get for his family? The Obamas promised their two daughters that they'd get a dog after the election-win or lose.

In a tight race for top dog the poodle won by a hair, just beating out the soft-coated wheaten terrier. The miniature schnauzer, bichon frise, and Chinese crested were other top candidates. If the Obamas decide on the poodle-a hypoallergenic breed that's a great fit with one of their daughter's allergies-the AKC will assist the Obama family in responsibly acquiring a puppy or an adult rescue dog.
