Practical Fracture Fixation in the Dog & Cat
Date: October 28 - October 29, 2015
Description:
Gain the ability and confidence you need to repair simple and comminuted fractures in dogs and cats. This course is designed to give the general practitioner a solid foundation in fracture repair in companion animals. Short lectures will be followed by laboratory exercises using plastic bone models and cadavers to perform implant application. A variety of fracture stabilization techniques will be discussed including pin and wire, pin and tension band and bone plating. The new locking bone plating systems are affordable and simple to use. Locking plates provide rigid stabilization allowing early return of function/ambulation for the patient. These user friendly plates have also dramatically reduced the chance of complication and increased the chance for a positive outcome. Participants will have the opportunity to assess their performance using postoperative radiographs. Case examples will be used to demonstrate successful clinical application of these techniques using the VOI fracture system. The fixation principles taught in his course can be applied to any locking plate system.
