Rep. Tom Lantos introduced the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards Act (H.R. 3858), which would amend the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. The bill would require that state and local governments' emergency preparedness plans address the needs of individuals with household pets and service animals to qualify for disaster grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
