Christopher Lee, DVM, MPH, DACVPM, DACVM (Parasitology), discusses the clinical significance of Toxoplasma gondii, when veterinary professionals should consider testing and how to communicate the risks of exposure to clients.
Offer a small gesture at a sad time
After a pet has died and the client requests the body to take home, we place the pet in a decorative pillow sham with a cardboard insert and a disposable puppy pad. The pillow shams can be purchased inexpensively at sales or secondhand stores. We tie the package with a ribbon and include a sympathy card for the client. This works well for small pets, and the clients appreciate the gesture.
