New dental diets bite into plaque formation
St. Charles, Mo. - Royal Canin Veterinary Diet? launched a new line of dental diets for dogs and cats to help prevent dental plaque and tartar formation.
ST. CHARLES, MO. — Royal Canin Veterinary Diet™ launched a new line of dental diets for dogs and cats to help prevent dental plaque and tartar formation.
Because 70-percent of cats and 85 percent of dogs age 3 years and older have oral problems, it's important to focus on dental care as soon as the first signs of trouble are observed, the company reports. Feeding cats and dogs a dry diet specially formulated to promote oral and dental health is an excellent means of supplementing the brushing of teeth or replacing this routine if brushing is not possible.
Royal Canin Dental Formula kibble acts in several ways to help maintain dental health:
- Mechanical action: Due to its shape, size and texture, the kibble has a gentle abrasive effect on teeth during chewing. This helps to break down the many species of bacteria that make up plaque.
- Sequestering agent for salivary calcium: Calcium plays a role in the mineralization of plaque.
- Tougher action on plaque: Products in the Royal Canin dental line contain a unique blend of nutrients effective against plaque.
Small-breed dogs, large-breed dogs and cats each have unique physiological characteristics that demand specialized nutrition to promote health and longevity, the company adds. Feline Dental DD 27™ is nutritionally complete and balanced for adult cats and supports urinary tract health in adult cats.
Canine Dental DS 23™ targets adult dogs less than 25 pounds. Anti oxidants help to protect against the effects of aging in the long-lived small-breed dogs.
Canine Dental DD 20™ is made for adult dogs more than 25 pounds. Glucosamine and chondroitin help to promote joint health and a balanced blend of fibers optimizes digestibility for larger dogs, the company says.
