Recall now includes all dry pet foot products and treats with expiration date Mary 24, 2014, or earlier.
The initial voluntary recall of three brands and several varieties of Natura Pet Products dry pet food expanded due to additional positive testing for potential Salmonella contamination now includes all dry pet food products. The further expanded recall now includes all dry pet food products and treats with expiration dates prior to and including March 24, 2014.
The presence of the bacteria was first discovered in a random, routine sampling from a retail location by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and confirmed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This is the first recall in the company’s 21-year history.
The recalled products, which include varieties of Evo Ancestral Diet, California Natural and HealthWise, were made in a single production facility during a two-week window in December 2012. As a precautionary measure, Natura is voluntarily recalling all products from this production window. Product expiration dates range from Dec. 17, 2013, through Jan. 2, 2014. Natura Pet Products distributed the recalled foods between Dec. 18, 2012, and March 15, 2013. The recall also now includes additional varieties of dry cat food with expiration dates ranging from Jan. 1, 2014 to March 24, 2014, and cat treats with expiration dates from July 1, 2013, to Sept. 27, 2013. The recalled products are sold in veterinary clinics, select pet specialty retailers and online in the United States, Canada, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong and Costa Rica.
