Hardy Diagnostics introduces new Food and Drug Administration approved MRSA Latex Kit for PBP2. The kit detects Penicillin Binding Protein 2 in isolates of Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococci.
The latex particles in the kit are coated with antibodies specific to the PBP2 protein. The test has 100-percent sensitivity and 99-percent specificity from blood agar, which is more accurate than disk diffusion methods, the company says.
