Egg production can put chickens at an increased risk for reproductive disease, says Brenna Fitzgerald, DVM, DABVP (Avian Practice), associate veterinarian at the Medical Center for Birds in Oakley, California. She talks about some of the most prevalent reproductive diseases seen in chickens.
The most common reproductive diseases seen are cancer of the ovary and oviduct. Practitioners also commonly see infections of the oviduct, trouble having eggs pass (aka, egg binding), ruptures of the oviduct, and oviductal impactions.
