The line of succession for ACVS

After completing a year as president of ACVS, Dr. Larry R. Bramlage was installed as chairman of its Board of Regents.

After completing a year as president of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), Larry R. Bramlage, DVM, MS, was installed as chairman of the Board of Regents Oct. 23 at the annual ACVS Veterinary Symposium and business meeting in San Diego. Bramlage is a partner in Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky.

Succeeding him as ACVS president for 2008 is Steven C. Budsberg, DVM, BS, MS, a small-animal surgeon and professor at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Budsberg served as president-elect during the past year.

The chairman and the president represent large-animal and small-animal disciplines on an yearly alternating basis. The chairman directs ACVS external affairs, while the president handles the business meeting and internal affairs.

The newly chosen president-elect is Stephen Adams, DVM, MS, professor of large-animal surgery and chief of the large-animal hospital at Purdue University's College of Veterinary Medicine.

Adams, who moves up to president next year, and two new regents were elected by the membership prior to the symposium and installed at the business meeting.

The new large-animal regent is Alicia L. Bertone, DVM, PhD, who holds the endowed chair of equine clinical medicine and surgery at The Ohio State University; and the new small-animal regent is Charles E. DeCamp, DVM, MS, professor and chair of the orthopedics department at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Continuing members of the Board of Regents are: Alan J. Lipowitz, DVM, MS, executive secretary; Robert A. Taylor, DVM, MS, treasurer; David E. Anderson, DVM, MS; Rolf M. Embertson, DVM; Cheryl S. Hedlund, DVM, MS; and Amy Kapatkin, DVM, MS.
