IDEXX announces product and service enhancements

January 13, 2022

These efficient technological updates display the company’s steadfast support for busy veterinary professionals.

IDEXX Laboratories, Inc has announced a series of product and service improvements that streamline veterinary practice operations and offer deeper, actionable insights and customized support to handle increasing patient caseloads.

“At IDEXX, we are committed to creating clarity for veterinarians as they manage the increasing demands on their services,” said Jay Mazelsky, IDEXX president and CEO, in a company release. “Inspired by customer needs and delivered through innovation, these enhancements enable efficiency in the practice and support veterinarians with actionable insights that lead to more confident clinical decisions.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, veterinary professionals’ already-busy schedules have become substantially busier. As people spent more time at home in 2020, it led to an influx in pet adoptions which strengthened the human-animal bond. This resulted in pet owners paying closer attention to their pet’s health, increasing patient volumes. Plus, pandemic protocols contributed to added stress.

According to the release, IDEXX recognized these challenges in the veterinary industry and offered support through the following product enhancements:

  • IDEXX 4Dx Plus Test now includes clinical decision support: This enables veterinarians to more quickly interpret reference laboratory or in-house results. After a positive result, clinical decision support on VetConnect PLUS offers follow-up considerations, in addition to patient-specific interpretive assistance, so veterinarians can detect evidence of active infection and identify the next necessary measures. Also, enhancements to the SNAP 4DxPlus Test are planned in the first half of the year (ie, increased sensitivity for Anaplasma and extended room temperature storage) to help save time.
  • VetConnect PLUS Mobile App was recently updated: This offers on-the-go veterinary professionals faster-than-ever available patient data at their fingertips. The enhancements consist of streamlined case management, more user-friendly reports, and more intuitive navigation—all available in multiple languages—enabling veterinarians to spend less time searching for information and more time with patients.
  • SediVue Dx Urine Sediment Analyzer now features Neural Network 6.0: This includes the analyzer’s latest advanced algorithmic software powered by 800 million urine sediment images. It increases bacteria sensitivity, which helps veterinarians identify the presence of a urinary tract infection faster. Plus, new interpretative comments will be available early in spring of 2022, providing clinical insights and support to help veterinarians move onto the next steps confidently.
  • New Catalyst SDMA Test: This early indicator for a decline in kidney function includes a new innovative technology that provides reagents onboard the slide, so it runs more efficiently as part of routine chemistry profiles. It is available beginning mid-2022 and will save time for practices by eliminating steps and simplifying workflows for faster results.
