Description:

How to Reduce Workplace Stress Through Communication & Leadership SkillsFriday, August 9, 2019Embassy Suites by Hilton Chicago OHare RosemontAbout The WorkshopCombining communication tools with self-management and self-awareness skills builds a stronger platform to lead and support empathetic interactions with clients and the veterinary medical team. Communication and connecting from an empathetic stance allows us to get to the heart pf any matter faster and with more trust. This results in more satisfied clients and robust teamwork with better problem solving capacities. This workshop will explore and provide several complimentary models of communication tools, styles and preferences, with specific learning activities and objectives around self-awareness and self-management of your own emotions and reactions. The DiSC model provides a common language that can be used to better understand oneself, and it also helps people adapt their behaviors to better communicate with others. Participants in this workshop will learn the four primary DiSC styles, including the strengths and challenges associate with each style.Participants will gain recognition of their inherent/personal communication style and preferences, and the ability to flex and meet the communication needs of others. In order to learn how to create space and curiosity around accepting feedback from others, best practices on how to give and receive feedback will be covered. This workshop will also explore the concepts of Imposter Syndrome and the Culture of Infallibility, as these are two common and troubling challenges faced by veterinary medical professionals.Conference Agenda7:30 AM: Registration & Continental Breakfast8:00 AM: Welcome & Why this Approach8:15 AM: Discovering DiSC & Putting It to Work in Your Workplace9:15 AM: Learning & Practicing How to Say It Like You Mean It10:45 AM: Break 11:00 AM: Best Practices for Giving & Receiving Feedback12:00 PM: Tackling Your Inner Demons (Part 1): Imposter Syndrome12:30 PM: Lunch 1:30 PM: Tackling Your Inner Demons (Part 2): How to Break Down the Myth of the Culture of Infallibility & Embrace Our Imperfections2:15 PM: How to Know When Your Changes are Working3:00 PM: Break3:15 PM: Putting Your Plan Together4:15 PM: AdjournGeneral InformationDate & Time: Friday, August 9, 2019, 8:00 AM - 4:15 PMLocation: Embassy Suites - Chicago O'Hare Rosemont, 5500 North River Road, Rosemont, IL 60018 (Map and directions can be downloaded form our website at https://apps.vetmed.wisc.edu/cereg/.)Lodging: A room block will be held at the Embassy Suites - Chicago O'Hare Rosemont.
