Veterinarians who are willing to work in underserved areas can get some help repaying their student loans from the federal government. Congress recently approved $500 million to fund a program that authorizes the Department of Agriculture to repay the loans of graduates of accredited veterinary schools who are willing to work in areas in need of veterinarians, often in rural or inner-city settings. Students who agree to help out during emergencies such as disease outbreaks or agro-terrorist threats are also eligible for additional debt relief.
