SCHAUMBURG, ILL. — The American Veterinary Medical Association's Group Health and Life Insurance Trust (GHLIT) replaced its PPO network First Health/Coventry with Aetna Signature Administrators (ASA). At the same time, ActiveHealth Management, also an Aetna company, assumed responsibility for the utilization review certification required for inpatient stays.
The decision to make the change was simple, Trust Chairman Dr. Gary Holfinger contends. "Our projected savings are about $1 million every month," he says.
The change will affect about 17,000 veterinarians, estimates Dr. Jody Johnson, GHLIT director of member services. According to Holfinger, 99.4 percent of members have access to the new network.
Program participants should receive new medical identification cards. For more information, visit www.avmaghlit.org or call (800) 621-6360.
