Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters, Second edition

The Association of Shelter Veterinarians has released a new edition of its Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters, a key resource for professionals caring for animals in foster-based organizations, nonprofit humane societies and SPCAs, municipal animal services facilities, and sanctuaries. Published in December 2022, this edition includes advances in shelter medicine and 2 new sections that expand on the previous version. It also shifts the framework from the Five Freedoms to the Five Domains for a wider approach to maintaining the welfare of animals in shelters.
