Dominic J. Marino, DVM, DACVS, DACCT, CCRP ACVS, chief of staff at Long Island Veterinary Specialists (LIVS), was recognized by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) as a Founding Fellow in Joint Replacement Surgery (JRS).

“ACVS Founding Fellows in Joint Replacement Surgery (JRS) are remarkable leaders as evidenced by their exemplary training, robust experience, innovative research, and committed practice," according to the ACVS, in a Long Island Veterinary Specialist's release. "They continue to devote a significant portion of their professional effort in seeking to prevent, diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate patients in the specialized field of joint replacement surgery."

Marino is among the most accomplished hip replacement surgeons in the nation and has performed over 2,000 total hip replacement (THR) procedures, beginning in the early 1990s. In addition, he has completed THR surgeries on canines, felines, and pot‐bellied pigs with special fields of interest including joint replacement surgery, brain surgery, and spine surgery.

Following the footsteps of his father—Leonard J. Marino, MD, FAAP, LVT—Marino has helped in over 650 hip replacement surgeries since becoming a veterinary nurse.

“There are many options for pets suffering with the pain of hip dysplasia, however, none offer the opportunity to return to normal function for the life of a pet without the need of medications and associated side effects like the benefits of total hip replacement surgery,” said Domino J. Marino.

“It has been the single most dramatic advancement in veterinary medicine in my 30‐year career and I’m grateful to have played a role in its development," he added.
