While you must pay employees at least time-and-a-half for any hours over 40 that they work in a week, you aren't required to pay overtime for Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays—unless, of course, it's over the 40 hours that week. But some employers choose to pay extra on those days as a bonus to their employees. A work week is defined as seven consecutive 24-hour periods.
