Veterinarians need to be compassionate. Part of the reason veterinarians may not show compassion during end-of-life care is that they go through these experiences so often, and the other part is that they need to take care of themselves.

Veterinarians also need to be able to relate and not act so much like the expert in end-of-life situations. They need to be authentic and understand what their clients are saying and going through.
