ClinQuiz: Tick particulars, answer 2A

1) A–Incorrect.

The cat is infected with Cytauxzoon felis, a tick-borne blood parasite. Although infection with this parasite was historically considered 100% fatal in cats, some cats can recover from cytauxzoonosis with excellent nursing care and antiparasitic treatment,1 and some clinically normal cats appear to harbor infection with C. felis.2-3 Strains of C. felis appear to vary in pathogenicity. Some cats may survive without treatment,4 thus the response to treatment interventions may not be consistent, particularly when comparing cats from different geographic areas.
