For $3,950 per kitten, people with feline allergies can own one of the world's first scientifically proven hypoallergenic cats. Scientists at a biotechnology company focusing on animal genetics manipulated naturally occurring genetic variations in cats and specifically targeted the gene responsible for the production of the common cat allergen. The result: a cat that didn't cause any allergic reactions in individuals with known feline allergies during trials. The first round of hypoallergenic kittens arrive at their new homes early next year— and come spayed or neutered.
